A few months ago I made a promise to myself. I simply told myself that my work with forever be authentic.
Authentic in my expresion, authentic in my drawings and authentic in my emotions.
Allowing myself to be vulnerable is what brings its true meaning to my works.

THE CROWN
The woman in the mirror.. I have noticed that in o The woman in the mirror.. I have noticed that in our community topics like mental health and self development are rarely discussed. We rarely talk about it fearing to seem vulnerable, weak or lost.

But the truth is, we are all a bit lost in this world. How can we not be?
However successful, beautiful and joyful we seem to be, we all have doubts and trauma.

So for me, my art is a form of therapy. It's highly personal and narrative.
Each detail carries my thoughts, each shadow expresses my doubts and each ray of light symbolizes hope and my unwavering faith in humanity.

Wishing everyone a beautiful 2021 full of healing, light and joy✨ #mentalhealth #selfdevelopment #positivity

"The Crown" will be exhibited in february 2021 in Los Angeles in the "Say My Name" exhibition. The exhibition resonates with the #BlackLivesMatter movement and will coincide with #BlackHistoryMonth.

A few words on this piece:

THE CROWN

On July 3, 2019, California became the first state in the United States to prohibit discrimination over natural hair. On that day, the CROWN (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair) act was signed into law, banning employers and schools from discriminating against hairstyles such as afros, braids, twists, and locks.

2019, that was less than two years ago. The necessity for such laws along with the violent acts we have witnessed in recent times, are clear indicators that racism is still very much alive in our society.

The history of black hair is deeply significant. Long rejected by Eurocentric beauty standards, afro hair has been at the center of discussion and seen by some as a sign of political defiance. Why should our hair be a political statement? The question that the artist Eolia poses. Thankfully, a major shift has been taking place in our community resulting in a renewed sense of identity and appreciation of black beauty and aesthetics.

Through this piece, Eolia celebrates the choice to wear our hair as we wish: our choice to be unapologetically ourselves.

“The Crown” is a celebration of black beauty in all its kinks, coils and glory.
